More Savings!

This will probably be my last blog for a while about all of the great shopping deals one can currently find, until after Christmas, when I hear sales will get even better (if you can believe ). So, one more time, in the spirit of savings, I want to share with you my recommendations of the best places to go to get great deals.

  1. Barneys New York: Barneys is having a great sale with merchandise discounted up to 70% off. I found a cute little Lanvin black satin handbag for $599 (original price $1,390), quite a few Diane Von Furstenburg dresses for around $100, a gorgeous Doo Ri dress about 60% off and Splendid and C&C California tank tops for under $30. I recommend checking out the sale as soon as possible as quantities are running out fast. If there is no Barneys in your area, don't worry. You can check out the sale at http://www.barneys.com/ and also check out Barneys Co-op at http://www.barneyscoop.com/.

  2. Shopbop: Aside from Saks, this sale is probably my favorite. Not only are designer items discounted at up to %70 off, but the site doesn't charge you for tax or shipping, which saves even more money! Be aware, that all sale items on this site are final, so make sure you love it before you buy it, because there are no returns (I found this out the hard way). I purchased a really great Love Yaya double breasted fleece jacket for $66 (original price $220). The site is also selling some great Cynthia Vincent dresses at very affordable prices. Go to http://www.shopbop.com/ to visit the sale.

  3. Not only is Chickdowntown, having a sale, but currently they are giving shoppers 40% off any original priced item that they buy, and an additional 25% off of sale items, so essentially, the entire site is on sale! This is the only place I've been able to find so far where you can get boyfriend jeans on sale. Chickdowntown has a ridiculous number of designers that they sell, so there's really great selection. Go to http://www.chickdowntown.com/ to shop.

  4. Bluefly is currently selling product for an extra 65% off. You can definitely find some good discounted merchandise on this site, but be warned that you will have to weed through a bunch of random stuff, to get to the good items. If you're up for the challenge, it may be worth it. Go to http://www.bluefly.com/ to check out the sale.

  5. Lastly, if you're looking for a specific item or trying to figure out where to go to get it for the best price, I would recommend taking a look at stylefeeder.com. It's a search engine, sorta like google for clothing. You type in the item you're looking for and it will tell you where to get it for the cheapest.

*One last random note: If you're wondering about the significance of the bag pictured above, It's the handbag that I wanted so badly, that was on sale for on $100, that sold out before I could buy it. I'm still trying to get over the blow :( Anyways, happy shopping everyone!

Designer That I'm Loving Right Now

Former Elle Magazine fashion editors Abigail Levinson, Karen Reinitz, and Ana Maria Pimentel started AKA New York in 2004. Abigail, Karen, and Ana Maria's years of fashion experience translates into pieces that are chic, yet wearable. It's pretty clear from first glance why this line is a new favorite of mine!

Designer Style on a Dime

Yesterday I raved about the amazing sale at Saks. I honestly can't remember the last time I've been so excited about a sale, and the best thing about it is that new items are being marked down constantly. I have literally been perusing the racks at Saks for nearly a month now, finding new bargains each time. But, now it's time to move on. In the spirit of savings, I thought I would do some research to see how many affordable pieces I could find that reminded me of some of my favorite designer pieces. Below are my findings:

Haute Hippie motorcycle jacket at Shopbop.com ($895)

Express motorcyle jacket at Express stores ($173)

Giuseppe Zanotti gladiator heels at Shopbop.com ($650)

Steve Madden gladiator heels at Steve Madden stores ($129)

Diane V,on Furstenburg sequined vest at Shopbop.com ($295)

Express sequined vest at Express stores ($98)

Diane Von Furstenburg jewled ballet flats at Shopbop.com ($295)

Banana Republic jewled ballet flats at Banana Republic stores ($68)

Tory Burch patent leather bag at Shopbop.com ($545)

Super Sale at Saks!

Okay, stop the presses! Saks is having an INSANE sale, and if you don't know about it, you should. I nearly passed out when I discovered the treasure trove of amazing designer pieces at deeply discounted prices. I scored these fantastic Miu Miu flats for only $149 (original price was $490)! At least this crappy economy has one silver lining; the sales are amazing! If you have any discressionary income, I would strongly advise checking out this sale. It's the best one i've found so far, and trust me, i've done my research.....

How to Wear the Boyfriend Look Without Looking Like Your Boyfriend

One of my favorite new trends is the boyfriend look. It’s so fun, funky, and quirky and can look really cute if worn correctly. Now, while I absolutely adore the trend, I still want to make sure that I look like a girl. So the dilemma then becomes how to wear this look while still looking sexy and feminine. The important thing to remember is that in order for this look to work, you must mix the look with other pieces and most importantly, be sure not to overdo it with the oversized, masculine pieces. It’s all about balance.

Sexy boyfriend: This one’s easy. One option is to wear your vest or jacket without a top underneath to show a little bit of sexy cleavage. Another simple way to wear this look is to pair an oxford tee with a sexy skirt and heels. Third option: In my opinion there’s nothing better than looking effortlessly sexy. By pairing a simple men’s button up tee with a pair of shorts you almost give the illusion that you rolled out of bed and threw on your boyfriend’s shirt and ran out of the house looking fabulous.

Boyfriend in Heels:
Heels easily make any look feminine. Again, this is a simple way to make your boyfriend look more chic (see picture below). I also want to stress to those that are a little wary of the boyfriend jean trend that it is perfectly okay to wear the jeans with heels. It’ll make your look more feminine and maybe easier to wear at first if you pair your jeans with heels and a fitted top so that the look isn’t uber baggy.

Schoolgirl Boyfriend:
The school girl look is another hot trend that can be sexy in and of itself and works great for mixing in the boyfriend look. The first look simply mixes a long boyfriend cardigan with a plaid skirt. The second look takes the school girl look pretty literally. That being so, we can still take inspiration from it. One great detail on the jacket is the crest which gives the outfit an immediate schoolgirl vibe. Paired with the short skirt and knee socks the look definitely reads sexy schoolgirl.

Romantic Boyfriend:
Try mixing one piece with something romantic and super feminine like these gorgeous floral Diane Von Furstenburg dresses. Worn simply with a boyfriend cardigan, the look is clearly romantic but still posesses cool aesthetic with the juxtaposition of the masculine and feminine pieces.

Girlfriend: A super easy way to wear this look is to get pieces that are menswear inspired but are feminine at the same time. This satin Abaete suit has a very feminine cut and the material in and of itself gives the suit an inherently feminine mood. The Diane von Furstenburg vest has great floral detail just on the back, and my absolute favorite, this sweater vest is worn like a dress or can be worn over a dress and belted for a super creative feminine look!

Easy Boyfriend:
If all of this is too much for you, don’t worry about it. It’s not necessary to put too much time and thought into it if that’s not what you want to do. Just remember, if you want to wear a baggy piece, either wear heels with it, or only wear one baggy piece. The same thing goes for men’s jackets, oxfords, hats, vests etc. Just don’t overdo it. Here are some examples of how you can still rock the boyfriend trend in a simpler way.

The most important thing to remember is to wear your look with confidence. That’s the sexiest accessory of all!

Welcome!

Welcome!
For anyone reading this, thank you so much for visiting my blog! This is my first attempt at doing anything like this. I am certainly not a writer, but I do love fashion, and many times find myself rambling about new trends and designers that I love to my friends, who after a few minutes begin to either roll their eyes or lose interest. Since I don’t have many friends who share my love of all things fashion, I decided that instead of boring them with my constant ramblings that I would put my thoughts up on the web.
I plan on talking about all things concerning fashion; from designers I love, to how to find good sales, celebrity fashion, fashion tips, etc. If anyone has any good ideas for a post please let me know! I would love feedback.
